SNOW WHITE & THE 7 DEADLY SINS

As I sit here and gaze out my window, a beautiful sight comes
before my eyes.  A record snowfall is coming down and covering
the earth.  There are several references to snow in the Bible.  In
the book of Job, God says that He orders the snow to blanket the
earth and no one can escape it.  We find the description of the
robe of the Lord on the Mount of Transfiguration in the gospels
of Matthew and Mark as shimmering, glistening white.  His hair
is described as a blizzard of white in the Revelation of St. John.

We may have heard sermons on the “seven deadly sins” also
known as “capital vices” or “cardinal sins” consisting of wrath,
greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.  Some churches
divide those sins into two categories: “venial sins,” which are
relatively minor and the more severe “capital” or mortal sins
which destroy the life of grace and create the threat of eternal
damnation.  It is impossible to find such categorization in the
Bible that agrees with this church tradition.  All have sinned
and all sin is sin and carries with it the wages of death.

Here’s the good news that is found in Psalms 51:7 and Isaiah 1:18—
we can have a snow-white life even if our sins are blood-red!
Therefore, we are not under the condemnation of death (or
deadly sins) but the resurrection of life because the sacrifice of
Jesus on the cross washed us white as snow!  Thanks be to
God for His
unspeakable gift!  Rejoice in it today!
